About

Saint John Boscokerk, often called Don Boscokerk, is a Catholic church in the Belgian city of Sint-Niklaas.

History: The church was built in the period 1950-1952 in gothic style. The architect was Adrien Bressers. The church was ordained by Bishop Calewaert. The surrounding houses, in the Priestage district, were inaugurated by King Baudouin on 4 November 1956. In 2024 there are no more worships in the church, but still funerals. There is currently a debate on the future of the building.

Patrimonium: The church has a valuable heritage with work by many local artists such as Staff Pyl (Glasramen), Tony Van Os (Kruiweg), Frans Heirbaut (Altar) and paintings by Werner Heyndrickx, Gabriël de Pauw and Raf Coorevits. At the facade is a 2.8 meter high image of Don Bosco, designed by Gerard Thienpont. The statue was inaugurated October 16, 1988 by auxiliary bishop Leo De Kesel.
