About

The Holy Spirit Chapel is a former chapel and building complex in the East Flemish city of Aalst, located on the Maegeline 1 and the Kattestraat 32-34.

Holy Spirit Chapel

History: Originally this was a house of God, the Table of the Holy Spirit, and after 1531 it was also called the Arm's Table. It was founded in 1368. The current chapel dates from 1470. In 1582, she was plundered by the Geuzen and re-ordained two years later. At the beginning of the 20th century, the chapel was decorated in neo-Gothic style. In the second half of the 20th century all this was removed. The furniture of the chapel, including a 17th century tabernacle and an 18th century communion bench, was transferred to the Stedelijk Museum. The chapel, as well as the adjacent buildings, shops and businesses, was built. In 1716-1718 a girl orphanage, the Maegelin, was built to the left of the chapel. This was broken down. Then there was the Holy Spirit House, which was demolished in 1841.
