Chapelle Notre-Dame de Grâce
The Chapelle Notre-Dame de Grâce (Our Lady of Grace chapel) is a modernist Maria Chapel in the hamlet of Renaumont in the Belgian municipality of Bertrix. The chapel has been protected as a monument since 2017.
History: The chapel was built in 1950 on the initiative of canon André Lanotte out of gratitude that Bertrix had largely unharmed from World War II. That's why he had four maria chapels built in the four corners of Bertrix territory. The Chapelle Notre-Dame de Grâce and the other three chapels were protected by the French Community on 16 October 2017, together with their surroundings. The protection relates in particular to the building, the fence and the bronze angel statues.
Description: The Chapelle Notre-Dame de Grâce stands in the hamlet of Renaumont in a bush amidst a meadow, west of Bertrix. It was designed by the Belgian architect Jacques Dupuis (1914-1984). He was inspired by Romanesque architecture. The chapel consists of natural stone with elements made of reinforced concrete.
