About

The Belfort of Diksmuide is the belfry at the Town Hall of the West Flemish city of Diksmuide. The tower is on the list of 56 belfries in Belgium and France, recognized as World Heritage by UNESCO. The first stone of the town hall was laid in 1428.

Between 1567 and 1572 large renovations were carried out. On a painting by Hacke from 1716 there is also a courtyard and a chapel tower. The construction of the third neo-Gothic town hall took place between 1875 and 1880 according to plans of the Brugse architect Louis Delaken series, but during the reconstruction (1923) after World War I, the architects took back to the architectural elements derived from the regional Flemish Renaissance style.

The new belfry tower (left on the picture) rose in the courtyard as a typical Flemish and medieval symbol of urban freedom.
