History: The first plans for building the church date back to 1931. As an architect André Driessen from Genk (1893-1976, among others at about the same time also appointed architect of the former Saint John's Hospital in Genk) who then made a preliminary draft. In 1933, Father Jozef Geurts asked his friend Joseph Coenen to help him, and he studied the fallen Gothic church of the former Abbey of Hocht, thus building a replica at Wiemesmeer. In 1935 the construction of the choir and cross beech began; In 1940 the ship followed. The ordination to Saint Joseph was probably because the first names of the priest and of Coenen were so. Sint-Hubertus was added in 1948 because of the Hubertus festivals in Wiemesmeer. On 28 October 1976, the vault collapsed above the left beech. The organ and the docsal were also destroyed.
