Sint-Christoffelkerk
The Sint-Christoffel church in Scheldewindeke in the Belgian province of East Flanders is a Roman Catholic church, named after St.Christoffe. It is facing east and is enclosed between Marktplein, Marktwegel and the cemetery.
Architecture: The original church, founded in the 12th or 13th century, was built in the Romanesque style. The renovations that took place from the 13th century, took place in the Gothic and later neo-Gothic style. For example, the original round Romanesque windows in the choir were closed, and replaced with narrow high Gothic windows. The extension of the ship with two side beeches by architect August van Assche occurred according to the neo-Gothic building tradition. The present church includes a choir, middle beech, two side beech, and a cross beech, a celebration tower, a sacristy, baptismal chapel and an outbuilding. Not much of the Gothic polychrome painted interior is left today. The interior walls are now harmoniously plastered white and painted.
