Begraafplaats van Anzegem
The Cemetery of Anzegem is a municipal cemetery in the municipality of Anzegem, Belgium. The cemetery is located about 300 meters east of St.Jan the Baptist Church. It is accessible by a road of 25 m on the Statiestraat.
There are three Belgian soldiers who died between May 1940 and January 1941. They were all three inhabitants of Anzegem.
At the cemetery are 1 New Zealand and 17 British killed from World War II. Twelve of them died during the defence against the German advance in May and June 1940 when the members of the British Expedition Army withdrew to Dunkirk. It was not until September 1944 that the Commonwealth forces could take back the region. Six other dead are members of the Royal Air Force who died during raids over Belgium or on their return from orders over Germany. There is also one victim (Lance Corporal Edward James Crocker) buried from World War I. Their graves are maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and are registered there under Anzegem Communal Cemetery.
