Arboretum
Arboretum Kalmthout in Kalmthout in the Belgian province of Antwerp is one of the oldest and most varied tree and plant gardens in Flanders. The arboretum has a wide collection and is characterized by "painting, strikingly complete planting images." The beds often have an oval shape. In the beds are deciduous trees, coniferous trees and shrubs planted. The herb layer is also part of the collection. There are four colour gardens, a rose garden and a butterfly garden, which give special accents. Among the most famous collections of Arboretum Kalmthout are the magic hazels (Hamamelis and related sexes), which bloom especially at the end of winter and early spring. "The ragged, yellow, lemon yellow, orange, red and purple flowers are then depicted against a background of dark green conifers and rhododendrons." In early spring, the collection of snowdrops (Galanthus) is also at its most beautiful. Later in the season the rhododendrons and magnolias follow. In summer, the perennials bloom. Autumn offers many autumn colours.
