The Holy Heart Church is the parish church of the Heilig-Hartwijk in Hasselt, located on Plantenstraat 75.

History: In this place for centuries, until the beginning of the 19th century, stood the great Hekkelaarwinning, which also called a street near the church. The construction of this provincial shrine was financed by money that was collected door to door in Limburg, following the National Basilica of the Sacré-Coeur in Paris. In the years during and after the construction of the Hasselt church, there was often - wrongly - referred to as basilica. The first stone laying took place on 13 September 1959 in the presence of the auxiliary bishop of Liège, Mr Guillaume Marie van Zuylen, who represented bishop Kerkhofs. The church was blessed on June 29, 1962, that year the High Feast of the Sacred Heart. It should be noted that the province of Limburg belonged to the diocese of Liège until 1967. The St.Quintinus Church in the centre of Hasselt was thus not a cathedral at the time, making the Provincial Shrine the most important church in the province...
