The Provincial Archeo Centre As a provincial heritage site, Velzeke is the continuation from 2018 of the Provincial Archaeological Museum Velzeke. It is an archaeological centre about the early history of the Belgian province of East Flanders, located in the village of Velzeke, a submunicipality of Zottegem. The centre highlights the prehistory, the Gallo-Roman era and the early Middle Ages in the province of East Flanders.

The museum opened in 1972. In 1986 it was located as 'Archeological Museum of South-East Flanders' at the Paddestraat in Velzeke. A second wing was inaugurated in 1992.

Then the province of East Flanders became also responsible, which changed its name to 'Provincial Archaeological Museum of South-East Flanders'. In 2016, a new museum wing with heritage depot was added to the building. Cleaned and inventoried archaeological finds are kept in the depot.

Recordings were made in 2021 for the historical documentary series The story of Flanders. The centre is located at the crossroads of two moors, the Heirbaan Boulogne-Asse-Tongeren and the moorsway between Bavay and the north. Here was once a thriving Gallo...
