Burcht van Kolmont
The Castle of Kolmont was a castle in Kolmont, a hamlet near Overrepen in the municipality of Tongeren in Belgium. The castle is located on the Oude Kolmontstraat near the Castle of Kolmont. In 2024 the castle was officially recognized as a monument.
Buildings: The castle was situated on the foothills of an artificially elevated ridge surrounded by several canals fed by the Herk. On the western side there is a force against the entrance of the fortress on the northern side. The castle consisted of two parts; On the one hand there was a building on the south side and on the other there was an elevated donjon on the north side. Both parts of the castle were connected by several outbuildings - including an oval tower serving as an army- and a square residential tower consisting of three layers. The roofs of the castle would have been covered with slate. The ten-sided donjon is best preserved. Each side of the donjon matt 4.7 m and the walls had a thickness of 3.25 m in which a staircase was saved. The entrance of the donjon was on the second layer. The holes in the walls...
