Dagbladmuseum
The Dagblad Museum was a private museum in the Belgian city of Antwerp, with the theme of the written press since the first publication in 1605 of the journal "New Tydinghen" by Abraham Verhoeven (1575-1652).
Establishment: The museum was founded on the initiative of George Blommaert, founder of the "Abraham Verhoevenstichting," and his wife, Julia Verwimp. Blommaert collected a lot of valuable documents about the newspaper from his own funds. Blommaert's father and grandfather already collected newspapers and young George clung diligently to theme collections on rolls of wallpaper paper.
History: On 3 April 1987 the Dagbladmuseum was located in the house 'Golden Sonne' on the Lombard Vest 6 in Antwerp. It was officially opened by Mayor Cools. Abraham Verhoeven had once lived here, who since 1605 published irregular news reports, which took the form of the first newspaper with headlines and illustrations on the front page from 1620. The cottage was only 24 m2. Later the museum was expanded with an adjacent building in the Kammenstraat, near the Nationalestraat.
