About

The Baljuwhuis in Gaasbeek in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant was built by Thomas Spruyt, lord of Zandvliet and baljuw of the Land of Gaasbeek between 1602 and 1606. The baljuw was the highest official in the country of Gaasbeek. He was charged, among other things, with the implementation of the law and the correct collection of taxes. After the partial destruction by the French troops of Villeroy it was rebuilt in the early 18th century. It was originally erected as a water castle, but after the purchase in 1870 by Marquis d'Arconati, the ring canals were muffled with the moth excavated from the immediate vicinity. The courthouse was protected on March 8, 1946. Businessman Piet Van Waeyenberge lives in the Baljuwhuis and renovated the nearby old Melkry into a library and cultural space. On his domain, at the foot of the Gaasbeek Castle, he has a procession of Brabant migratory horses.
