Bavobrug
The Bavo Bridge is a cyclist and pedestrian bridge over the Nederscholde in Ghent, built in 2008, near the confluence of the Nederscholde and the Leie on the Portus Ganda. The steel tub bridge is part of the Veermanplein where the Proximus Building and the Van Eyck Swimming Pool are located and connects it with the Nieuwbrugkaai and the surroundings of the Sint-Lievenscollege. The bridge was inaugurated on 19 February 2008 by Flemish minister Hilde Crevits. The tunes are in inox and replace a classic bridge railing. The tilted pylons have a relatively limited height. The remarkable and elegant Bavobrug was nominated in 2008 for the Civil Engineering category of the biennial Staalbouw competition of the Belgian steel information centre InfoSteel. The design of Luc Hesters van Waterwegen and Zeekanaal was also built by WenZ.
