Basiliek van Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Bon-Secours
The Basilica of Our Lady of Good Help (in French Basilique Notre-Dame de Bon-Seours) is located in Péruwelz in Hainaut (and in particular in the former Belgian municipality of Bon-Seours, the place with a pilgrimage aimed at an ancient oak dedicated to Notre-Dame-du-chêne-entre-deux-bois). It is a basilica dedicated to the worship of the Virgin Mary, built in a massive Gothic style. Already in the sixteenth century pilgrimages were organized and by decree of the Bishopric of Tournai a chapel was built.
In 1885, the architect François Baeckelmans began building a new neo-Gothic church. The building was completed in 1892. At the front are two square towers and a gate.
The underlying building is built according to the central building with eight pillars on which the dome rests. In 1910 the church was elevated to Basilica. Between 1880 and World War I, the basilica was connected to the station of Péruwelz by means of a horse tram.
