Cimetière britannique de Messines Ridge
Messines Ridge British Cemetery is a British military cemetery located in the Belgian city of Mesen. The cemetery is located 600 m west of the St. Nicholas Church.
She was designed by Charles. Holden and is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. The site has a rectangular ground plan with an area of 6.183 m2 and is surrounded by a natural stone wall.
At the entrance of the cemetery there is also the Messines Ridge (New Zealand) Memorial. This Memorial of the Missing is one of the seven monuments in Belgium and France for New Zealand soldiers who died on the Westfront and have no known grave. The Cross of Sacrifice stands on top of this monument and the Stone of Remembrance is central to the cemetery.
Because the cemetery is higher than the street level, the open access consists of a dozen steps. The cemetery counts 1,531 killed of which 957 could no longer be identified.
