The Basilica of Our Lady of Dadizele is a basilica in the Belgian town of Dadizele. It is Flemish pilgrimage site in honor of OLV van Dadizele. The statue was honored with a Papal coronation by Bishop Waffelaert in 1902. Later the pilgrimage church received the title of basilica minor by papal bul. The title of basilica major is reserved for churches in Rome. She is dedicated to Our Lady and built in neo-Gothic style, according to the design of the English architect Edward Welby Pugin. Later the plans were re-enacted by Jean-Baptiste Bethune.
The first stone laying took place on 8 September 1857 and on 1 September 1867 the first sacred Mass was ordered. On 31 January 1882 Pope Leo XIII granted the status of Basilica to the church of Dadizele: next to the Holy Blood Chapel in Bruges, the only basilica in the diocese of Bruges. The Basilica replaced a 15th century late Gothic pilgrimage church. It was built on the occasion of the proclamation of the Dogma Declaration of the Immaculate Conception of Mary on December 8, 1854, at the initiative of Bishop Joannes-Baptista Malou.
