Heilig Hart van Jezuskerk
The Sacred Heart Church is a parish church in the district of Vriesdonk, part of the Antwerp municipality.
History: The parish, which also includes the part of Donk in Ekeren, was founded in 1886. Count Alfred de Baillet gave the ground for the church, which was built from 1888-1890 according to Louis Gife's design. To build the church the Donkse Steenweg between the Old Baan in Ekeren and the rest of the Donkse Steenweg in Brasschaat was interrupted. Traffic is now on a detour. During World War II the church was severely damaged, and restored from 1946-1954.
Building: It is a northeast oriented brick church building in neo-Gothic style. Sandstone was used for tyres and further decoration. It is a three-storey basilical cross church. The church has a adjoining tower and a three-sided closed choir.
