About

The Belfort of Sint-Truiden is the historic belfry of the Belgian city of Sint-Truiden. The tower was originally part of the sheet hall. Today, the belfry is part of the town hall of Saint-Truiden, built around it in the 18th century.

The lower part of the belfry dates from the 13th century, the rest from 1608. The halls of 1366 are now part of the lower floor of the town hall, the facades of which were renewed in 1754-55 by the Liège architect Étienne Fayen. The 18th century rooms on the floor are richly decorated with stucco.

The reliefs in the vestibule of 1788 are signed by André Vivroux from Liège. The allegories on the mantelpiece of the council room-wedding room are oil paintings by the Maastricht-Liège painter Jean-Baptiste Coclers. The crown list depicts the weapons of the eleven crafts of Saint-Truiden.

In 2005, the belfry of St.Truiden was placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the group registration of 56 belfries in Belgium and France.
