The African Palace (until 2018 called Colonial Palace or Palace of the Colonies) is a building in the Belgian Tervuren, at the end of the Tervurenlaan on the Park of Tervuren and the AfricaMuseum.
History: At the site of the African Palace stood the summer pavilion of Prince Willem, where Charlotte of Mexico stayed for a while. The pavilion was burned down on March 3, 1879. The Palace of Colonies was built in 1897 by order of Leopold II according to plans of architect Alfred-Philibert Aldrophe to draw up the first Congregation exhibition (colonial part of the World Exhibition of 1897). At the back is the band that was built by Georges Hobé for the exhibition of 1897. In 1898, the first Musée du Congo was housed in it, a museum and a scientific institution for the dissemination of colonial propaganda and support for colonial activities of Belgium. It was named Colonial Museum of Tervuren and moved to a new building in the neighborhood in 1910 where the institution is still based under the name AfricaMuseum.
