The House of European History is a cultural institution and museum explaining the (mainly 20th century) European history and integration. The museum is an initiative of the European Parliament and opened its doors on 6 May 2017. The House offers permanent, but also temporary and travelling exhibitions, a collection of objects and documents that illustrate European history, educational programs, cultural events and publications, as well as a wide range of content online. The museum is located in the European quarter of Leopoldpark on the rue Belliard in Brussels.
History of the project: The idea of creating a House of European History was launched by Hans-Gert Pöttering on 13 February 2007 during his inaugural address as President of the European Parliament. One of the main objectives of the project should be to "enhance the knowledge of all generations of European citizens about their own history and thus contribute to a better understanding of Europe's current and future development."
