Tank memorial
Bevrijdingsmonument
The Liberation Monument is a war monument in the municipality of Meerhout, Belgium. This tank monument is located on the Liberationlaan (N102) and the Sportlaan in the southwest of the place.
History: On 13 September 1944, during the Second World War Meerhout was liberated from the German occupation by the Allied 2nd Battalion Gordon Highlanders Scotland. After the war, a monument was erected here for commemoration. The vehicle is a British armoured infantry vehicle of type FV103 Spartan. However, it dates back to the 1970s and played no role in the liberation of the village. Meerhout had requested such a World War II vehicle at the Royal Museum of Army and Military History, a Bren Gun Carrier, but had to do with this more modern version of this vehicle.
