The chapel is a chapel in the municipality of Eeklo, Belgium. The chapel is located near the cemetery of Eeklo. The chapel was built in 1898 under the direction of the city architect Frans Van Wassenove. There are images in terracotta of which the upper archangel represents Michael. The sculptures, a design by Fernand Nisol, were restored in 2004 by students of the Provincial Institute of Eeklo.

Holy Burial Chapel

History: The present chapel stands on the site of a calvary mountain with a buried sacred grave scene and a crucifix. A first Holy Grave in a calvary mountain stood here in 1775 and was moved in 1780 for the construction of a mill. In 1794, during the reign of the French revolutionaries, the Holy Grave and the Cross disappeared. A new Holy Grave was built in 1808-09 and the calvary mountain was dug up in 1898 at the demolition of the mill. Pastor-deacon Camillus Heiliau (1896-1910) took the initiative to build the current chapel. Prominent presence in the chapel is the polychrome sculpture group of the burial by Matthias Zens.
