musée archéologique d'Arlon
The Archaeological Museum of Arlon () is an archaeological museum located in the city of Arlon, Belgium. The museum was founded in 1886 and is located in a neoclassical building dating from 1840. The collection comes from the creation in 1846 of the Société pour la recherche et la conservation des monuments historiques, archéologiques et des œuvres dolpenart, which collected archaeological objects in the province and which began to be exhibited.
Since 1959 it is a provincial museum in the province of Luxembourg. The museum is part of the Institut Archéologique du Luxembourg. The museum's permanent collection is dedicated to the Gallo-Roman period.
The collection includes ceramics, glassware, metal objects, mosaics and especially grave monuments. Four museum pieces are recognized as Walloon masterpieces, including the mausoleum of Vervicius and Vervicia and the monument of the inhabitants of Orolaunum (the present Arlen) for Apollo. The museum also has a department of Merovingian objects, originating from the graveyard in Aarlen.
After a renovation of several months, the museum was reopened in early 2018...
