Begraafplaats van Marke
Marke Cemetery is a municipal cemetery located in the Belgian municipality of Marke, a submunicipality of Kortrijk. The cemetery is located on the Spinnersstraat 450 m east of the center (Sint-Brixiuskerk). It has an irregular shape and is surrounded by a hedge and trees. Due to the wide use of green plants and trees, the cemetery has the view of a park. The entrance consists of a brick gate building with a Gothic arch gate that is closed with a two-part metal gate. The building is covered by a saddle roof. At the cemetery there are about twenty civilian and military victims from World War I and World War II.
At the cemetery lies the grave of James H. Birtwell, soldier at the Lancashire Fusiliers. He died on 20 October 1918 and was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM). His grave is maintained by the municipality and is registered with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission under Marke Communal Cemetery.
