The Basilica of Our Lady of Troost in Vilvoorde is the monastery church of the Carmelites, a contemplative order of which prayer, silence, liturgy and hospitality are the building blocks. Access to this pilgrimage site is located on the Leuvensestraat. The annual pilgrimage Mass is celebrated on the 3rd Sunday after Easter. The church was founded by the founder of the Carmelites (John Soreth). There are just three churches and the Troostkerk is the only one that remained in constant use as a church. It has a hexagonal, late-gothic baroque central building dating from 1663-1665. In the choir there is the statue of Our Lady of Comfort from the 13th century. It was probably donated by Sofia of Thuringia, wife of Henry II of Brabant. In the north tower there is a door and a shattered window, behind which is the cloister.
History: In the 13th century, beguines settled outside for a while. Vilvoorde in Peutie. In 1469, after the destruction of Liège by Charles de Stoute, a group of Carmelites moved to the Vilvoordse beguijnhof, which was called Our Lady at Troost.
