About

The Gouédic Bridge (or Gouëdic Bridge, Gouedic Bridge) is a bridge with 3 arches located under Rue de Gouédic in Saint-Brieuc crossing the Gouédic Valley, and crossing the creek of the same name. The current bridge was built in 1745 under the direction of Daniel Chocat de Grand-Maison, engineer from Rennes and inspector general of Ponts et Chaussées de Bretagne. It replaces a work built between 1612 and 1645. The bridge considered in the 19th century as "the most beautiful work of art" along the old royal road from Paris to Brest, was for a long time the point of access to the city of Saint-Brieuc on this busy axis, until the construction of the other bridges on the valley :

upstream, the Gouédic railway viaduct (1862) downstream: the Armor Bridge (1962), the viaduct of Toupin (1904), and the viaduct of Gouédic (1983) borrowed by the N12. The Gouédic bridge was largely buried during the construction of the multi-level parking lot that now adjoins it, and only the deck of the bridge and the top of the arches are still visible.
