About

The Bernay Museum of Fine Arts was created in the second half of the 19th century, when a considerable number of museums were created throughout France. Labeled museum of France in 2002, it is one of the oldest museums in the department of Eure. Installed in the former Abbatial Home, the collections, spread over two levels, have become richer over time thanks to numerous donations, bequests, deposits and acquisitions and are now made up of nearly 10,000 objects.

They reflect the collections of provincial museums designed in the 19th century: encyclopedics and didactic, mixing fine arts, antiquities, science, archaeology, decorative arts and natural history. The museum can pride itself on owning one of the most beautiful sets of earthenware in Rouen in Normandy and offering its visitors the opportunity to see works attributed to renowned artists such as Carlo Cignani, Charles Le Brun, Nicolas de Largillierre, Adriaen Coorte, Jan van Goyen, Louis Valtat, André Mare, Raymond Duchamp-Villon, Henri de Maistre. Since 2012, a room has been specially dedicated to the history of Bernay, labeled City of Art and History.
