oppidum de Boviolles
The Boviolles Oppidum is located on a vast spur overlooking the current agglomeration of Boviolles, in the French department of Meuse. With an area of about 50 ha, it is barred by an imposing rampart of type murus gallicus whose remains can always be seen. The most important occupation was in the 1st century BC: it was probably a real city, with its streets, houses, shops and artisans' quarters, which rose at that time.
The inhabitants maintained continuous commercial relations with their neighbours and with Roman Italy: many wine amphoras, ceramics from Etruria and Campania were discovered, as well as coins from much of Gaul. The archaeological site is listed as historical monuments by order of 11 May 1994.
