Roman theatre
The ancient theatre of Orléans is an ancient theatre building located in the commune of Orléans in the Loiret department. Its diameter is more than 100 m. Built in the first century, enlarged in the next century, it is gradually dismantled from the third century and its grip is placed in culture in the Middle Ages.
The monument was discovered in 1821 during town planning work, even if its existence was long assumed. After rapid observations, it is completely destroyed, its rubble being used in particular to build a wharf on the Loire. Only two partial plans drawn up in 1821 and July 1822 bear witness to its architecture.
