About

The Brutz mines are iron mines operated from 1912 to 1952 in Teillay, Brittany. They were created in 1911 by the Compagnie Générale des mines de fer de Bretagne, and the operation really started in 1920 after the First World War. Workers' towns are built to house the hundreds of workers working there.

After World War II, mining activity was reduced, ore quality was reduced and a fire precipitated the closure of the site in 1952. Since 1994, the site has been restored by an association and a museum has been set up. In 2000, the mines became the property of the community of communes Bretagne porte de Loire.
