About

The statue-menhir of Cambous is a statue-menhir belonging to the rouergat group discovered in Fontrieu, in the Tarn department in France.

History: The statue was discovered in 1987 by Abbé Record at the place known as Cambous on the former town of Castelnau-de-Brassac near a ridge line. The statue-menhir has been listed as a historic monument as an object since October 14, 2019.

Description: The statue was engraved in a small, rounded granite slab 1.38 m high by 0.93 m wide and 0.28 m thick. It's a male statue-menhir. The statue-menhir is whole but very worn out: no anthropomorphic character is any more visible, only a few attributes are (belt with buckle, shoulder strap, part of "the object"). The original statue is preserved in the interpretation centre of the megaliths in Murat-sur-Vèbre, a copy was prepared near the site of its discovery.
