Statue menhir
statues-menhirs du groupe rouergat
The statues-menhirs of the rouergat group, also known as statues-menhirs of the Rouergue/Haut-Languedoc group, are a set of 157 statues-menhirs that owe their name to their discovery in a geographical area situated on horseback in the departments of Aveyron, Tarn and Herault. It is a stylistically very homogeneous group with a common cannon but where, carved patterns vary according to the gender of the character. Discovered outside of any archaeological context, their dating was done in comparison with similar furniture found during archaeological excavations. They are dated from the final Neolithic (end of the fourth millennium BC at the beginning of the third millennium BC).
