About

This paper lists a selection of Roman or ancient ways, hypothetical or proven, between the ancient cities of Mediolanum Santonum (currently Saintes), and Vesunna (Vesone, present-day district of Périgueux), in France. Some sections of these major or secondary roads are mentioned in written documents, such as the Puisinger table. Exceptionally, they are confirmed by archaeology and epigraphy, and have been responsible for many conjectures since the 18th century.

They cross three departments: Charente-Maritime, Charente and Dordogne. The route whose route is best known in its entirety between Saintes and Périgueux is named chemin Boisné (or chemin Boisne) in its crossing of the Charente. Another variant, passing further south through Pons and clearly Roman construction, is recognized up to Guimps in Charente.

Its extension to Périgueux by Brossac, Aubeterre-sur-Dronne or Ribérac remains hypothetical.
