Archaeological site
The altitude station of Wintzenheim-Hohlandsberg is an settlement having occupied at the time of the final Bronze the summit of Hohlandsberg, a position overlooking the plain of Alsace above the current municipalities of Wintzenheim and Colmar. Consisting of a set of terraces overhanged by an acropolis, the site probably had an essentially economic function, oriented towards breeding, rather than defensive, despite the presence of a enclosure. Discovered in 1965, the site was later the subject of several excavations, but the construction of Hohlandsburg Castle in the 13th century altered its climax, while part of it was also destroyed by tourist developments in the 1990s.
