About

Notre-Dame-des-Doms Cathedral or Notre-Dame-des-Doms Basilica located in Avignon, in the French department of Vaucluse and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, has been a Catholic cathedral since the 12th century, titrated minor basilica by Pope Pius IX in 1854. It is located between the Rocher des Doms and the Palais des Papes d'Avignon. In 1475, the bishopric of Avignon was promoted archdiocese, the cathedral then became a Metropolis and its archbishop was called Metropolitan Archbishop, carrying the pallium until 2002[why?].
