The Allianz Riviera, also known as the Nice Stadium and the Riviera Stadium, is a multifunctional stadium located in the Saint-Isidore district of Nice in the Alpes-Maritimes. Inaugurated on 22 September 2013 after a nearly two-year construction project, the Nice enclosure has 36,178 seats. The Olympique Gymnaste Club of Nice has been a resident club since then. The Allianz Riviera hosted several meetings of the 2016 European Football Championship.

First project cancelled: After the failure in 2002 of a first project to rebuild the Ray Stadium, the municipality of Jacques Peyrat announced in December 2005 the construction of a new 32,600-seat stadium in the Var Plain. Although strongly criticized by a number of political players as to its usefulness and format, the new stadium aims to replace the old and octogenary stadium of the Ray and to provide the football club of the Nice GOC with a worthy venue and the means to develop an ambitious sports project within the elite of French and European football.
