Tourist attraction
The Navy is a tourist site on the island of Réunion, French overseas department and region in the southwest of the Indian Ocean. It is located in the commune of Saint-Benoît north of the city centre. At the end of the 18th century, spices, coffee and various exotic products were exported to the metropolis.
Its favourable climate for planting and its quality land make Saint-Benoît the ideal city for the creation of a port. Built in 1780, the Bourbier Navy served for the embarkation of sugars, Tapioca, spices and other goods, and helped to serve the borough in the wind, as a key point in the export of goods. At the time, the Marine of Saint-Benoît was considered the capital of the export of goods.
Originally built in the Butor district, but too often destroyed by weather and cyclones, it is replaced by the Bourbier Navy. Upon delivery of the Reunion Railway in 1882, the navy continued to operate but declined over the years until the 1904 cyclone took over the entire installation. Today it is a green space and a tourist site...
