About

The Marguerite and Aimé Maeght Foundation (pronounced [m It is one of the most important international collections with more than 13,000 works by great artists from the 20th and early 21st centuries. Aimé Maeght (1906-1981) and his wife Marguerite (née Devaye, 1909-1977) were publishers, printers, art dealers and galleryists. They had a special friendship with some of the most important artists of the twentieth century, such as Pierre Bonnard, Henri Matisse, Joan Miró, Alexander Calder, Fernand Léger, Georges Braque, Alberto Giacometti and Marc Chagall.

It is from this friendship that their Foundation was born, whose building, designed by Catalan architect Josep Lluís Sert, was inaugurated in 1964 by André Malraux. It became the first independent foundation of modern art in France.
