About

The Roger-Quilliot Art Museum (MARQ) is located in Clermont-Ferrand (in the Montferrand district) in part of the buildings of a former Ursuline convent built in the 17th century. This building is classified as a historical monument. The museum opened in 1992 as the Museum of Fine Arts and was renamed the former mayor of Clermont-Ferrand, Roger Quilliot.

The museum building was transformed by architects Claude Gaillard and Adrien Fainsilber. The different rooms are structured on three levels around a central atrium surmounted by a glass roof designed by engineer Peter Rice. On an area of 6,000 m2, the museum has nearly 2,000 works from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.

It also has spaces for temporary exhibitions, usually in connection with museum works or for welcoming contemporary artists. A documentation centre is located on the top floor of the museum.
