abbaye Saint-Pierre de Larreule
The abbey of Larreule in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques was a Benedictine abbey founded by the Duke of Gascogne Guillaume Sanche at the end of the 10th century. It reached its peak between the 11th and 14th centuries and was one of the three most important abbeys of Béarn. In decline at the end of the 14th century, it was ravaged in 1569 during the Wars of Religion, definitively closed in 1773 and its conventual buildings disappeared during the Revolution.
