Guédelon Castle

Guedelon or the castle of Guedelon is an experimental construction site of a castle fort, started in 1997, according to the techniques and materials used in the Middle Ages. This architectural project, located in Treigny in the Yonne, in an old disused quarry in the centre of a forest and close to a pond about 30 kilometers southwest of Auxerre, aims to improve the knowledge of castellology and experimental archaeology. While developing a reflection of the type "art and popular traditions", he staged in a real development the construction of a monumental program, which differentiates him from theme parks. It is the third most visited monument of the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region (after the hospices of Beaune and the citadel of Besançon).
