Equestrian statuette
Statuette équestre dite de Charlemagne
The equestrian statuette known as Charlemagne is a bronze statuette dated from the Carolingian period presenting like Roman emperors Charlemagne or his grandson Charles le Chauve. The work was made from an ancient use for the horse, on the model of the equestrian statue of Marc-Aurèle. This is the only Carolingian round-bosse kept to date. It is preserved at the Louvre Museum.
