The Château d'Apremont is a former 13th century castle, center of the seigneury of Apremont, raised as a barony in 1497 and which stood on the commune of Apremont in the department of Savoie, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The ancestral castle of the lords of La Balme d'Apremont has made way for a modern house.

Situation: The castle of Apremont stood on a rocky nipple, above the hamlet of Apremont-le-Gaz, at the confluence of two torrents, on the northeast slopes of Mount Granier, opposite that of Montmelian. It controlled the crossroads of the roads from Dauphiné to Savoy, from Chambéry (Lyon and Geneva) to Grenoble by the Isère valley, from Entremont-le-Vieux to Myans, and from Lyon to Chambéry by the Col des Échelles.

History: The fief and the castle of Apremont were the possession of the lords of La Balme d'Apremont, a family known since the 11th century. In 1284, recognition passed by Rolet de la Balme and his brothers for the Château d'Apremont, half of the mandate of Apremont and all that they possess in the parishes of Aillon, Saint-Étienne and Saint-Jean-d'Arvey and des Déserts in favor of the Count of Savoie, Philippe...
