The castle of Ardenne is located in the commune of Moulidars in the Charente, in the north of the village and overlooking to the south the wine plain and the valley of the Charente. It has been listed as a historic monument since 1978.

Origins: The name "Ardenne" comes from the name of the Gaulish goddess of hunting: "Arduina". This name will not be mentioned in charters until the 15th century, despite the existence of the place from the 12th century, but no charter of that time mentions the name "Ardenne". Originally (circa 1100) the castle of Ardenne was only one tower: the tower of Montliard. It is a construction of public and Comtal origin.

The "turris": On a single charter, dating from 1117, lies the history of Montliard Tower before the 15th century. This charter is a transaction between Richard de Montbrun and the Abbé de Saint-Cybard. Indeed, the castle of Ardenne, from the 12th century to the 15th century, is only a tower: the tower of Montliard, then the tower of Montliard aka Ardenne.
