Château de la Mercerie

The Château de la Mercerie is located in the commune of Magnac-lès-Gardes (Charente). It was built in the late 19th century and enlarged in the early 20th century in a classical Italian Renaissance style by Raymond Rethoré (1901-1986) and his brother Alphonse (1905-1983) but never finished. It is nicknamed the Charentais Versailles. The castle has an important collection of azulejos, decorated Portuguese earthenware.
