Altkirch de Reichshoffen
The Altkirch, the only remaining tower of the Heidenkirche church, is a historical monument located in Reichshoffen, in the French department of Lower Rhine. Former Romanesque church, restored with a Gothic nave, it has been listed on the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments since 1990. It was renovated in 2014. The Altkirch is often assimilated to the "Reichshoffen leprosy": when the mention of a leprosy was found in the texts, custom associated it with the Altkirch outside of any historical methodology. Bernard Rombourg, the first president of SHARE, has located the former leprosy south of the commune, thanks to old maps and the reference "Gutleuthaus" still perpetrated in the Napoleonic cadastre.
Location: This building is located bei der alten Kirche in Reichshoffen, rue des Près.
Built on a hillside, the Altkirch is a medieval site with a religious vocation. The building has been listed as historic monuments since 1990.
Presence of Roman steles: Reichshoffen developed during the Roman era, as shown by the numerous archaeological discoveries...
