site archéologique de la Croix-Guillaume
The height site of the Cross-Guillaume in Saint-Quirin (Moselle) is a hamlet of the Roman period located about twenty kilometers from the ancient agglomeration of Pons Saravi, the present-day Sarrebourg, the last stage of the ancient Langres-Strasbourg way, during the Roman period, before the Col de Saverne. This plateau of about 7,000 m2, made of sandstone, peaks at 487 m high and dominates in the East the valley of the Red Saar and in the West the valley of the White Saar. Since the 18th century, the site has attracted scholars and the first archaeological investigations have been carried out since 1962, through some surveys and recently between 1994 and 1999. The archaeological furniture discovered on this site, such as ceramic, metallic, etc., as well as the numerous steles or fragments of funeral or votive steles, the monuments in round-bosse, such as the statues of worship of the horsemen known as the Anguipedes, are preserved and exhibited in part at the Sarrebourg Museum. This site has been listed as historic monuments since September 11, 2003.
The beginning of the occupation of this site would go up, after dating ceramic teasses discovered in the foundations...
