Church building
église Sainte-Barbe de Wallers
Sainte-Barbe Church is a Catholic church built from 1905 to 1907 by the Compagnie des Mines d'Anzin for its miners working at the recently opened Arenberg pit in Wallers in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais mining basin. The Sainte-Barbe church is built in the heart of the city of Arenberg, with mining towns relatively far from the city centre. Another church, much earlier, exists in the centre of Wallers: the Saint-Vaast church, known for its fire in the 2000s.
During World War I, the church was damaged, its bell tower was destroyed, and part of its roof was destroyed. Everything is reconstructed identically. On June 30, 2012, the Church of St.Barbe was listed among 353 items on UNESCO's World Heritage List and constituted a small part of Site No.
