About

The Protestant Temple of Etaules is a place of worship of the United Protestant Church of France in Charente-Maritime. It is one of the components of the parish of the Saintonge Islands, which covers part of the Arvert peninsula, the island of Oleron and the vicinity of Marennes. Built from 1859 to 1864, this sobriety building is marked by a certain classicism, like many nearby temples.

Its facade, decorated with a tympanum, is reminiscent of some aspects of the temple of Media, about ten kilometers away. His architect, the Parisian Léon Jossier, is also the author of the temples of Chaillevette and the very original one of Saint-Sulpice-de-Royan. Originally, the temple of Etaules had a small campanile, visible on old postcards, which has since disappeared.
